Ours is a story of optimism, resilience, courage, and most of all, love. In May 2016, my father suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a rare form of brain cancer, taking away his ability to live independently. Since then, I’ve put my career aside and moved out of my home with my husband to live with my father as his full-time caregiver.

about me

Accepting his newly incapacitated state as the new normal is something I refuse to do. My goal as his caregiver is to help him stave off a cancer recurrence and to rehabilitate him to his full potential so that he may thrive on every level and continue to enjoy this wonderful world and everything life has to offer.

Self-care is something I’ve grown to value and prioritize because of how important it is for the both of us. My personal wellness needs to be maintained in order to make sure I have the mental and physical fortitude needed to continue to fuel my drive and determination to help my dad. I approach both his care and my own from a holistic standpoint – one that aims at nourishing the mind, body, and soul through every day ordinary activities – and it’s working! He’s consistently defying the odds. Now a three-year brain cancer survivor, he’s making great strides in overcoming the cognitive impairments incurred from the brain damage that the tumor left.

Stay tuned for insights into caring for a parent with a traumatic brain injury as well as anecdotes of how we change ordinary moments into extraordinary opportunities to fortify us, expedite the healing process and keep us on the path to wellness. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
